Winter Veggie Garden Sacramento, CA (Zone9B)
Specifically, El Dorado Hills, CA – Our Winter Veggie Garden with Beets, Broccoli, Swiss Chard, Kale, Brussel Sprouts and some Herbs
Well, we got started a little late on this winter veggie garden; however, I think we should be fine. We did a recent post on a Succulent Propagation from Leaf and Beheadings and that soaked up a lot of our time but now we have started our winter garden, yay!
We started with a layer of your average potting soil, then added a layer of G&B organic potting soil and then one more additional layer of fertilizer. Growing a winter garden in Sacramento in Wine Barrels (seen above) or any other pots limits you to say the least. It can and will be done; however, if you have the option to use raised beds, we would recommend it.

This will be an ongoing post in measuring many different aspects of the garden. We will be including what vegetables do best in a Sacramento Winter Garden and what pests arrive in our winter garden as well.

Winter Garden Sacramento – Sometimes We Need More Light!
For our Winter Garden in Sacramento, we started putting the garden under some LED Lights for 9-10 hours a day. After we added the LED lights, they took off! If you are having days of dark clouds and a ton of rain, drop some LED lights over them and bring them under an overhang.
