DIY Shoe Pourri Made in 2 Ways
Homemade Shoe-Pourri/ Shoe Deoderizer Recipe At Home Made Two Different Ways
In a recent post, we discussed the DIY Poo Pourri Recipe and and DIY Poo Pourri Recipe with Lemon Grass. Today we are going to show you two ways to create a DIY Shoe Pourri Made in 2 Ways. Today, we made DIY Shoe Pourri Sachets with these awesome favor bags and our poo spray essential oils we bought from Target.
We also made them the basic way with a simple pair of socks. The DIY Shoe Pourri with the sachets was by far much more convenient and cool looking than the socks, below we will explain why.
Overview: What is Shoe Pourri and why should you use it?
DIY Shoe Pourri Recipe – Sachets Rice & Essential Oil
Poo pourri is great for taking away nasty bathroom odors, but did you know it can also be used to get rid of disgusting shoe smells as well?
It’s one of the most distinctive odors on the planet: the rank, sticky smell that permeates a room when someone takes off a pair of shoes that their feet have been ripening in all day. It’s bad with closed toed shoes with no socks like Sperry Loafers, and with tennis shoes or running shoes it can pretty much knock anyone over in a fifty foot radius.
Stinky feet can be a sign of health problems such as athlete’s foot. You can (and should) use any of dozens of different home remedies to treat the odor-causing fungus on your feet. You can bathe your feet in rubbing alcohol, soak them in Epsom salts, exfoliate them with baking soda, and even sleep with onions in your socks to help combat your foot stank. As an added bonus, many of these natural remedies also help you become healthier overall.
Whoa, Whoa, Whoa.. Onions???
Ok, you don’t have to sleep with onions on your feet but you get the point.
When you wake up and put your feet back in your shoes, the whole process starts over again. Your feet sweat inside the confines of your shoes, and the moisture provides the perfect breeding ground for fungus to grow again. Then you take your shoes off after a long day of letting them marinade, and you once again smell the fragrance of stinky feet filling the air.
With poo pourri shoe spray, Rocket Pure Shoe Spray or DIY Shoe Pourri, you don’t have to worry about your shoe stink anymore. A couple sprays of beautiful smelling shoe spray, and your shoes will smell like roses. Stick your nose right up to them; all you will smell is the pleasant aroma of flowers and essential oils.
An Alternative to Making DIY Shoe Spray: Shoe Pourri Option #1 – Sachets
Go to Target, Amazon or whatever craft store you love and pick out some cool bags, sachets or whatever you want to call them. The most important thing to keep in mind is to make sure that they are permeable. We found these are target for 9.99 for four. We bought two bags because the both looked cool a we have A LOT of stinky shoes.
QUICK NOTE: A little bit goes a long way, we added way to much the first time and the house smelled too good for about two weeks.
DIY Shoe Pourri Step #1 – Rice and Essential Oils
Get Creative and Do it Yourself!
Get a cup or bowl, load it with rice and drop your essential oils onto the rice. I would say anywhere between 20-40 drops of essential oils would be enough. You can use your best judgement on this. The more stinky your feet, the more essential oils you need right?
Just keep in mind that a little bit goes a long way, you can always add more.
DIY Shoe Pourri Step #2 – Fill your Sachet
Load your sachet or party bag or whatever you have with your DIY Shoe Pourri Recipe Ingredients and clean out your bowl. There are so many great ideas for sachets. You find these sachet bags at places like Etsy, Target, Home Goods, Craft Stores, Amazon, Etc.

It is up to you to get creative with it and have fun!
DIY Shoe Pourri Step #3 – Shake it up!
Zip up your sachet and shake it up a bit to get all the essential oils mixed together. You can also pop open your sachet and add more essential oils if the smell is not strong enough.
DIY Shoe Pourri Step #4 – Stuff them in your shoes!
Once your mixture is complete and your sachet is loaded, your DIY Shoe Pourri Recipe and ingredients are together and done. Start rolling your sachet into a hotdog style roll and stuff t hem into the bottom of your shoe. Let the sachets sit overnight or for a week and enjoy!
NOTE: Why are the DIY Shoe Pourri Sachets better than DIY Shoe Pourri Socks??
- The sachets act as a support to your shoes and support your shoe frame
- The sachets have strings you can pull out
- The sachets have better permeable breathing abilities
- The sachets look cooler
- You can hang the sachets in your entry way when you’re done and they are decorative
If all you have is socks, the Recipe and Ingredients are the same. See Below.
An Alternative to Making DIY Shoe Spray: Shoe Pourri Option #2 – Socks
We used hair ties but you can use rubber bands or pretty much anything you want. Get creative and have fun. This is so easy and pretty cool not to have stinky feet!!
How to make Shoe Pourri With Socks?
You can get even more benefit and long-lasting odor protection per drop of shoe spray by mixing up an essential oils shoe sachet. Here’s what you need:
- 1 cup dry oats or rice
- 2 socks
- 2 rubber bands
- Poo pourri shoe spray or essential oils of your choice
- Spray oats or rice with shoe spray until barely moistened (about five pumps), or add 5-7 drops of essential oils to oats or rice and mix.
- Spoon the mixture into the 2 socks, about ½ cup in each.
- Fasten the socks with rubber bands.
- Place in shoes. Voila! You have heavenly smelling shoe sachets.
These shoe sachets will help to absorb the moisture from your shoes every night, which helps to crate an inhospitable environment for bacteria and fungi to grow. Those stinky little bugs like warm, moist areas, and essential oil shoe sachets turn your shoes into deliciously scented little deserts. When your sachets start to lose their scent, just add a few more drops of essential oils to refresh them!
Shoe Pourri Spray Vs. DIY Shoe Pourri Shoe Sachets
Poo pourri shoe spray is made from real essential oils. These gifts from nature cover up and mask the stinky smell of sweaty feet, and then they get to work killing the germs and fungus that cause the stinky smell in the first place. From the first spray you’ll notice your shoes smelling nice, instead of stanky.
DIY Shoe Pourri Shoe Sachets: Is also made from real essential oils and then rice. So simple, so easy.. give it a try. As you continue to use shoe pourri, you’ll notice that the nasty shoe smell doesn’t come back, because the natural antibacterial and anti fungal properties in the essential oils actually create a clean environment inside your shoes.
You can Use the Shoe Spray for Your Feet, Shoe Sachets for you Shoes
You can mist poo pourri shoe spray lightly on your feet to help kill germs and just give you a lift, especially after a long day of work. If you are using a scent such as Thieves or cinnamon, use a carrier oil such as coconut oil to protect your skin from the cinnamon oil, which can be very irritating when used directly on skin.
Can I just use Febreeze instead?
Well, you can, but you won’t get the long-term benefits. A chemical solution that just covers up and traps odors will make your shoes smell nice for one day, but it doesn’t do anything to actually kill the germs that are causing the odors. Besides, essential oils just smell better than chemical perfumes anyway!
Make your shoes last longer
Many people just give up on their shoes when they start to get stinky, and replace them. It’s common wisdom that once your shoes start providing a vacation home for smelly microbes, those microbes are there to stay. Fortunately, you don’t have to throw out your gym shoes just yet. Attack the problem at the source and smell good while you’re doing it with poo pourri shoe spray!
